PTC Mathcad has all your engineering notebook’s intuition and familiarity with live mathematical notation and units intelligence. The calculation capabilities process much more accurate results than a typical spreadsheet could.

Using this robust mathematical functionality, you can document your most critical engineering calculations as easily as you can write them. Show your work using a variety of formatting options in addition to text, images, and plots in a single, professionally formatted document – no special skills required.

Reduced Errors

with full unit support to display, manipulate, analyze, and plot data.

Higher Accuracy

of results by enhanced calculation capabilities for solving complex problems.

Precise Communication

between engineers and other departments with easy-to-read documents.

CAD Technical Drawing

PTC Mathcad does what spreadsheets, word processing, presentation software, and programming applications simply cannot do – it brings advanced engineering calculations and math notations into readable form for use beyond engineering.

Engineering calculations are the very core of product design – They are essential to every step of the process. To succeed in engineering, teams need a comprehensive, yet easy-to-use application that executes calculations accurately, secures your intellectual property, and shows the team’s work.

Richard Rudd

Principal Consulting Engineer at Aegis

Due to the speed at which PTC Mathcad can process data and present it visually, we were able to present the figures pertaining to the experiments to the British National Space Center within just two days.

Mike Daniels

Senior Research Specialist at 3M, Aerospace and Aircraft Maintenance Division

PTC Mathcad is a very important aspect of my job. With PTC Mathcad, the process of creating new calculations and the ability to visualize the rationale behind the calculation significantly simplifies and speeds up the entire process of testing and evaluating polymers.

Eric Pease

Engineer, Daniel B. Stephens & Associates, Inc

Mathcad has become the requisite software for the performance of my job. My production is contongent on Mathcad and my textbooks.

Geri Piller

Head of Structural Analysis, Solar Image

Using PTC Mathcad, all of the formulas and mathematical terms are making calculations much easier to check compared to Microsoft Excel. With recurring tasks like pin and lug analysis, we had to do the same work repeatedly when we did calculations by hand. Using PTC Matcad, we have defined templates. Now analyses are three to five times faster.

Mike Becker

Mechanical Engineer, Uni-Systems, LLC

My favorite part of Mathcad is that it’s easy to use. Engineers new to the system can accomplish tasks in a matter of hours and become experts in two weeks. There are no special programming skills required.

Mike Daniels

Senior Research Specialist at 3M, Aerospace and Aircraft Maintenance Division

PTC Mathcad lets me use time-temperature super position methods, which generate master curves and then seamlessly allow me to document my work. I can easily change and test variables and see the effect on the whole model. I think you can easily see the value of managing and storing calculations for a global manufacturing company like 3M.

Below you’ll find answers to our most commonly asked questions.

You can count on personalized support around the clock – by email, live chat, or by joining a live webinar.

Can a Mathcad Prime file be opened in Mathcad Express?
Yes. However, spreadsheets must be licensed in order to make math edits and calculations. If a spreadsheet is not licensed, only edits to the text can be made. Access to premium features is limited to fully licensed spreadsheets.
What is Mathcad Prime used for?

Mathcad Prime is used for a variety of engineering calculations and tasks such as:

  • Customizable 2D plotting
  • Writing and evaluating equations
  • Unit conversions for force, mass, pressure, torque, voltage
  • Linear algebra for solving systems of linear equations
  • Programming for numerical analysis
What is the latest version of Mathcad Prime?

As of 2022, PTC has released Mathcad Prime 8.0.

What data file formats does Mathcad 8 support?

Mathcad 8.0 supports external data files using read and write functions for various file formats including:

  • Text (.txt)
  • Excel (.xlsx, .xls, .csv)
  • Image (.bmp, .jpg)
What’s the difference between Mathcad Express and Mathcad Prime?

The difference is that Mathcad Express is a free version of Mathcad Prime with limited functionalities.

What’s the difference between Mathcad Prime and Mathcad 15?

PTC Mathcad Prime files do not require a different EPM Document type.
